Redcurrant Glass - Handmade in Lancashire
About Redcurrant Glass

Karen Redmayne BA(Hons)-Proprietor

I graduated from Bretton Hall College in 1998 with a degree in printmaking and illustration. In 2001 I established my own business, Redcurrant glass, with the support of the Princes Trust.
I began producing Limited Edition Lino Prints, Relief prints, Watercolours and Illustrations. Complementing this I started working in glass producing a range of kiln formed / fused glass pieces, the technique  I use was originally developed over 3000 years ago. Each piece is individually designed, cut, and then fired at temperatures above 800 degrees then slowly cooled. The nature of glass  art means that no two pieces are identical making every piece produced unique.
My inspiration is drawn from my love for nature and my surroundings, having been brought up in the countryside on a farm I have always been drawn to nature. My work mainly derives from landscapes, seascapes and buildings and I try to replicate the colours and forms found in the natural world in my work. My work is available to buy online here on my website and in various galleries and shops which  I supply throughout the UK. All my work is produced by hand at my studio which is locatedin Higherford Mill, in the small lancashire village of Higherford,  which is in the shadow of Pendle Hill. My studio is available to visit by appointment were you can come and see me at work or view my products first hand.
I also undertake commissions and run Printmaking and illustration courses,Fused Glass and Jewellery making courses for all ages and abilities from my studio.
